Praised for his “beauty of tone and elegance of style” (Herald-Tribune), Patrick Goodwin enjoys a varied career as a violinist and educator. Prior to relocating to Canada, Patrick held the position of concertmaster with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and regularly led the orchestra for productions and tours with Cape Town Opera and Cape Town City Ballet. Now based in Toronto, Patrick has performed as a freelance violinist with various orchestras, including the Orchestra of the National Ballet of Canada, Esprit Orchestra and the Hamilton Philharmonic. He is currently a member of Sinfonia Toronto.

 

Patrick has appeared as a soloist with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, University of Cape Town Symphony Orchestra and Musicanti Chamber Orchestra. He has appeared in recital throughout South Africa and was a founding member of the Cape Town based Bacharova Quartet and the Juliet String Quartet.

 

Born in Windhoek, Namibia, Patrick studied in Cape Town and Chicago where his teachers included Farida Bacharova and Olga Kaler. He has been a faculty member at the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival  and was a lecturer in violin and orchestral studies at the South African College of Music, University of Cape Town.
